Karakia | Prayer
Karakia are traditional Maaori prayers that connect us to the spiritual world, calling upon the blessings of our atua and tuupuna. They are used to open and close gatherings, request guidance and protection, express gratitude, and nurture harmony and wellbeing.
He Inoi Timatanga | Opening Prayer
Hei mua koe, e Ihowaa, hei toohutohu i aa maatou mahi katoa.
Ko koe anoo hoki hei whakakaha i a maatou,
kia whai korooria ai koe i aa maatou mahi katoa.
He mea tiimata, he mea mahi, he mea whakaoti i roto i a koe,
kia whiwhi ai hoki maatou ki te ora tonu,
i te mea e atawhaitia nei e koe, ko IIhu Karaiti hoki too maatou Ariki.
AAmine.
Go before us, O Lord, and guide all that we do.
Also strengthen us,
so that you may be glorified in all our work.
May everything we begin, carry out, and complete be done through you,
so that we may receive everlasting life,
through your loving care, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
He Inoi Whakamutunga | Closing Prayer
Kia tau ki a taatou katoa
te atawhai o too taatou Ariki, o IIhu Karaiti,
me te aroha o te Atua,
me te whiwhinga tahitanga ki te Wairua Tapu,

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

Let us pray
Lord, have mercy on us
Christ, have mercy on us
Lord, have mercy on us
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
Forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those who sin against us,
Do not lead us into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen.
Karakia moo te kai | Prayer for Food
E te Atua Kaharawa,
Whakapaingia eenei kai,
Hei oranga moo oo maatou tinana.
Whangaia hoki oo maatou wairua
Ki te taro o te ora.
Ko Ihu Karaiti too maatou Kaiwhakaora.
AAmine.
O Almighty God,
Bless this food,
For the nourishment of our bodies.
And feed our spirits also
With the bread of life.
Jesus Christ is our Saviour.
Amen.
